He did, so he pushed with one hand while he wiped at his face with the other, frustrated that there had been tears at all and feeling like they had scarred his cheeks as they burned their way down, and followed the ghost of Pietro's touch through his hair like he could force it away and stop it from squirming nauseatingly in his stomach. It worked, too well, leaving Tony feeling covered in the cold sweat of sickness anyway without the relief. Now he just felt rejected. What did Pietro want?
Whether it was an immediate suggestion or a general philosophy, Tony didn't clarify when he replied, "Help yourself," with as much dignity as he could pull together feeling weak and exposed and sick. Either way, he clearly wanted nothing else to do with Pietro if he would just leave Tony alone and stop saying and doing stupid shit that reminded Tony how completely worthless he was. He didn't needed to be reminded; he couldn't avoid it in here and Pietro couldn't even articulate what was so goddamn important about Tony's life that he needed to interfere. And Pietro was so fucking sincerely obtuse that Tony could hardly bring himself to consider that Pietro knew exactly what he was doing, raised to be fully capable of this cruelty and gently nudging Tony to just do it; leave, have his drink, not come back and let Pietro and his sister live out their end-of-days abandon guilt-free. Wanda didn't have the constitution for something like that, but Pietro would do anything for her, wouldn't he?
