"Yeah?" she asked in a small voice, dubious, like she didn't believe him. He wasn't going to lie about it so she guessed that meant the Avengers (and, hopefully, Peter) and Happy and Pepper and Anthony but there were other people that maybe Tony didn't know about it. Like Kate. So it wasn't going to be okay, not yet. But right now it was a lot better. She had to scrub at her eyes again because his wiping away her tears managed to make her cry more ("what the heeeell?" she muttered, even more embarrassed now) and when she finally got herself under control she flung her arms around Tony's neck and buried her face against his shoulder. No one had to know she'd finally broken down and cried and needed a hug, and Tony wasn't going to tell anyone unless he wanted a kick to the shin.
"Wasn't sure," she told him, her voice muffled against his shoulder. "When I saw the Tower, you know-" Ugh, she might start crying again or something stupid. She leaned away from him, one arm still looped around his neck and with her free hand she pressed her palm to each of her eyes to stop anymore crying. "Fury said everyone was okay but I didn't really believe him." Seeing was believing like the dumb saying went and so even if she heard it from everyone on this flying heap of metal, she wasn't going to believe it until she actually saw someone she cared about. That of course, meant admitting to herself that she did even care which sucked enough and the feeling bad about the whole thing was setting in again now that the tears were gone. That sucked, too.
