That was a promise he couldn’t truthfully make because anything could happen and he could be dead tomorrow, they all could, but Wanda knew he was trying to help her, in his way, and she appreciated that. She hadn’t meant to put this on him, he just happened to be the one available and it was nice that someone was willing to support her and let her be afraid. It actually made her feel a little stronger. When it came down to the wire she wouldn’t mind having Hawkeye in her corner, trying to keep them all alive.
Whether it was because she thought he needed to hear it or because maybe she needed convincing herself, she gave his arm a squeeze and nodded before she told him quietly, “You’re making the right choice.” It was unspoken, but she knew they all felt guilty about what had happened at the hospital (she especially) and now they were virtually abandoning the West Coast. Clint couldn’t possibly feel good about that, Wanda knew she didn’t and she couldn’t suppose her brother or Janet necessarily would either. Something had to be done, though, and they couldn’t shoulder the blame for everything. Clint couldn’t shoulder it alone. “We’re making the right choice,” she added in a more resolute tone. Wanda had supported him in coming out here, after all, and she would support him in leaving no matter what the consequences.
