Clint sighed and gave small nod at her reply. “No.. I wouldn’t.” There was wisdom in her words. Randomly showing up in some unknown location was a move that could wind up killing them all in one fell stroke. That wasn’t the sort of gambit a leader should place on a team. That meant the open road was truly their only choice. The team would simply have to make do. They would enter the mines of moria.
It was Wanda’s second comment then that caught Clint off guard. He felt her touch and turned to glance her way with slight surprise showing in his eyes. She looked just broken. Like a run down toy that had fallen in a damp gutter. It was never a sight he wanted to see her in. She was strong, so absolutely strong. He remembered the girl long ago he’d met while bickering over what channel to watch. That girl never trembled like this. Never. It was her words though, that really shook him. She was terrified. Really terrified. Not even in the worst situations in California had seen her break sweat. Not even during the jungle mission. But here right now in front of him she looked like she might break. It tore him up inside to see that. To be her witness. “I think if I stop moving. If I stop, uhm..planning and watching. Then I would be too.” He glanced down then and met her eyes with stark intensity. “But I won’t. I promise you now. I won’t.”
