It wasn't that Kate was expecting a rosy answer, but she expected a sincere one, and not all of this jumping around that seemed to be happening until Tony finally had it. She quietly thanked him for the soup and water, and twisted the bottle cap open to take a sip, brows raised to suggest that she had reached the very same sentiment. Of course no one was prepared for this, no one except maybe the nerds who dedicated their lives to preparing for a zombie apocalypse. Maybe that weird guy in her psych class who actually ran "survival drills" had it right the entire time. Kate would never know now.
"When's the last time you touched base with them?" she asked, blowing on a forkful of noodles. She guessed it should have been enough that they were holding up and apparently sparing her more heartache for at least another day, but Kate wanted to make sure she wasn't accepting age-old information. No offense to Tony.
