Still meanwhile yet...
A shriek drowned out the wailing of the impotent car alarm for an intolerably long time before it devolved into hysterical sobs. The alarm went on, uninterrupted, not deterring any thieves but announcing to everyone in a three block radius that its roof had just been caved in, windows shattered and metal warped, under a six ton, alligator beast man.
Hopefully, they had insurance for that sort of thing. Iron Man hovered above for a moment longer, waiting for some flicker of consciousness from the beast, but it didn't come. The woman, crouched against the side of the nearest building, continued to sob even as Iron Man touched down in front of her. "It's under control, ma'am, you were never in any danger--" he tried to placate her, but the volume of her sobs only increased, making him back away defensively. "I assur--" he started to say when she turned red.
Everything turned red.
With a transcript of Fury's message flashing at the top of his screen, Tony only mumbled, "Yeah, I can see that," and left the S.W.A.T. team tearing into the street-cum-battlezone to deal with the alligator dude and the woman. She had to be a tourist. New York natives were used to this sort of thing. He launched straight upwards, only leveling out when he was well clear of the highest building, trying insistently to get some response from the helicarrier with three second delays between a repeated "Sitrep, Constellation" as a running background function. He could see it looming, misleadingly docile looking from this distance, but he turned his back on it to tear over the rooftops towards Manhattan.
