Kate was prepared to snap back with her mouth open and eyes narrowed indignantly, but was just as easily willing to accept his kinder approach. It was a stressful situation that they were both in, but she had to keep in mind that they were still on the same team here. Snapping her mouth shut, Kate calmly withdrew and offered him a weak, maybe even apologetic, smile. She was still totally with him on this.
During Tony's momentary daze, Kate watched him closely, listening for any thoughts that might've slipped out loud or written themselves across his face. When he came out of it, she cast her eyes downward into her own coffee, mouth twisted to the side as she chewed on the inside of her cheek. “Rash?” Kate perked up. “Of course not.” The irony of her response was conveyed by a slight curve of her lips. Any more smart comments she might have had on the matter were washed away by another sip of coffee, though she shook her head more seriously in regards to his question as if she herself had the “right” word in mind. Whatever was more horrible than ‘rash’ at least, it was hard to say, Kate believed Cassie wouldn’t do it, not for anyone. She also believed that she had enough sense to come back if this thing with Daisy got to be too much, and hoped that Daisy had her back as much as Cassie obviously had hers.
After that, it was hard not to feel a little jealous, which felt weird because Kate wasn’t a jealous person. This time must’ve been the exception. Her emotions were starting to stir up again and combating against them was getting to be exhausting. Luckily, she had just enough strength to hold them down and not cause Tony anymore alarm, lest he freak out and hide in the pantry or something. “I think Cassie will be fine,” Kate offered. “In the history of things she’s done, this probably isn’t the worst.” Even though it kind of felt like it, but that was just Kate’s heartbreak getting in the way again. Deep breaths. “But we at least know her heart’s in the right place and uh, once we get more information we’ll have a clearer picture to work more confidently off of."
