characters: Jess and Tony setting: Avengers Tower (...before Thor arrives.) content: I dunno with these kids. summary: The two haven't been on the best of terms and at this point we don't even think they know why. Today we expect them to cut the crap and figure it out so they can make-up.
Fingers pressed against her lips, Jessica shook her head and grinned. She barely knew what was going on this book anymore, but it entertained her at least and by the time she turned the page, a quiet chuckle betrayed her and then other one until she could no longer fight it and was stuck snickering to herself between the pages, book held up to hide her face until she composed herself.
Jessica then re-positioned herself on the couch, lifting one leg up to her chest while the heel of the other one remained propped against the edge of the coffee table. It was especially quiet around the Tower these days minus those fleeting instances, for example, when someone shuffled through the kitchen or wandered down the halls. Interactions were growing sparser each day, but if anyone asked, Jessica really couldn't care less these days. There was a reason for that and that reason she realized a little too late, was nearby. With a sigh, Jessica frowned and lowered her book.
His footsteps were distinct, easy enough to pick out among others if Jessica cared enough to do it. Lately, she did. It became a bit of a habit, actually...it made for an easier and more successful escape because god knew that she was over the piss-poor attitudes and the stupid comments and the exhaustion of being frustrated every bloody time the other person did so much as breathe. What was this? And how did it get to this point? Hell if she knew. She hadn't tried to figure it out.
But the entire atmosphere changed; it was as if she hadn't uttered a single sound or giggle that day. Her face hardened into solemnity and she kept her eyes on the text, dragging them off the page only once to make a quick cool glance toward the asshole who just intruded in on her private moment of absurdity.
