The girl's tone deflated Cassie a little, and she wasn't sure what she'd said wrong, she was just trying to make conversation, but at least the stranger was still talking to her. Cassie nodded and shrugged, "Yeah, it was the cheapest stuff I could find. Probably explains why it didn't work." She ended in an awkward mumble and shuffled forward a few more feet. Now there was only two guys ahead of her, which was the hugest relief, until one of them whipped out a list and Cassie instantly hated him (despite her own long list of orders).
Someone came into her line of sight at the corner of her eye and Cassie turned to watch a woman approach the guy in front of her and the two began to chat like old friends which wouldn't have been a problem except the woman used that as an excuse to slip into the line and cut everyone behind her- with Cassie and Noriko the most immediate victims of the offense. Cassie bristled a little and was about to object when she realized she'd inadvertently grown a few inches in her sudden flare of irritation. She quickly returned to normal height but kept her mouth shut, wondering why everyone in the world had to be such a huge jerk all the time.
