Maybe they could, Kate thought, but she couldn't bring herself to invest in the possibility enough to get her hopes up right then. Instead, she filed it in the back of her mind for another time and threw on a smile for the remainder of the ride. Neither ride or smile lasted for very long--subsequent to leaving the elevator, Clint's statement elicited a mimicking stare. Kate knew what "problem" he was talking about (it was pretty much why she was there in the first place), but he said it like what she’d done--and no, she was not bringing it up again--was a criminal offense. But then, it kind of was, in the world of archery.
Her final response was nothing more than an eye roll, the corner of her mouth pinched together in a repressed smile. An actual retort might've come off as snarky or bratty, which would’ve been tragically misleading since Kate had actually been looking forward to this. Needless to say, the girl was anything but ungrateful. “So about this ‘something’,” she said, catching up with Clint’s stride. “Does it include trick arrows?” Kate asked with casualness, though was clearly betrayed by the huge grin on her face.
