Tony was caught hovering next to his desk, mouth opening with one hand out as if to stop Danny before he got too far into the speech Tony already felt coming, but dropping as he quickly realized it wasn't to be stopped. It held anxiously over his heart as Tony did his best to be patient, the other touching the desk as if he thought he might fall over if this went on too long. At least Danny was kind enough to keep the misery brief. It just wasn't in Tony to be able to explain to Danny that he wasn't just a deeply good person, but he would be a great man to more hopeful people than he would ever know about. One of the good things Danny had done for both of them was accept, because Tony knew what it was like to lose everything, and how hard it was to let someone help. Tony depended on the gestures to get the message across. He was sure he had picked the right man, as long as Danny wanted to help himself.
With a deep breath an a not quite polished smile, they were back on a familiar track and Tony had to quickly remind himself of what he was doing. The desk, a memo, right. "I'll have Ms. Potts prepare the paperwork and she'll call you in for the official stuff," he explained vaguely, because that part was boring and Tony knew he was going to have to deal with it more than enough later. He turned then, his screen lighting up again for him to type a quick e-mail to Pepper with one hand explaining the same thing to her where he stood, leaning over the keyboard. "I'm going to shift Ms. Lang over as your assistant," he went on, also in the e-mail, quickly sent so that Tony could focus and not say anything stupid before he straightened and continued. He started with, "Um," and scrubbed his eye with his knuckles, just to make sure he was awake and making the right decision, but he was still sure after that. Maybe she would have more respect for someone who she hadn't watched babble and vomit for a week and actually do her job. "It can just be a temporary thing and you can hire out of house if you find a better fit," he said, "but she knows her way around the systems and the, you know, gossip mill, she's good to start."
