This certainty that nothing is set in stone- Characters: Wanda, Clint Setting: Avengers Tower Content: Nothing bad Summary: Clint visits the Avengers tower
Wanda was alone in the tower tonight, apparently, because she couldn't think why else JARVIS was interrupting her reading to quietly tell her there was a guest down in the common room. She sat in bed and closed her book, staring quizzically at the ceiling (which had long ago become the place she generally looked when address JARVIS, as if he were the omnipotent god of the tower watching over them all). It occurred to her that perhaps this was the sort of thing JARVIS always told the leader of the Avengers and maybe Cap got message like this all the time. It was still strange to think of herself as the leader for all that, for the past few weeks, she'd been assembling the team and leading the meetings and making the plans in battle. Admittedly, her time as head of the Avengers hadn't gone completely awry, but she wasn't going to be disappointed to relinquish command of the team for awhile, either.
"Who is it?" she asked and moved towards her door. JARVIS didn't let just anyone into the tower, so she could only think of a handful of people it could actually be- so she certainly wasn't expecting when JARVIS answered Clint Barton. Wanda stopped short in her bedroom doorway and shook her head. Clint? Really? It had been over a year since she'd seen him; by the time she'd returned to the Avengers he'd left it. It appeared that this was suddenly the time for lost superheroes to come home, first Quicksilver and now Hawkeye.
Descending the stairs slowly, Wanda thought of the circumstances under which she'd last seen Clint. They hadn't been particularly good, it was at one of Tony's parties and Clint had been drunk and belligerent and trying to connect with Wanda who refused his sympathy, wallowing as she was in self-pity after the loss of both her brother and her powers. What terrible terms to have ended their friendship on- and to Wanda they had been friends, though their relationship was certainly rocky. Wanda could feel nothing but regret thinking back on it now. He'd only been trying to help, after all. But it was so long ago and he was clearly here for a reasons so, she figured, it was best to start over. When she reached the common room she was smiling and she immediately went to Clint with her hand held out. "It's been awhile," she said.
