The heart has reasons that reason does not understand Characters: Pietro Lehnsherr, Magnus Lehnsherr, open Genoshians if they wish to react? Setting: Lehnsherr Manor Content: Medical Issues? Summary: Pietro's heart has run out of heart beats
Pietro had been born with a big heart. When he was little the doctors didn't know why, and its size coupled with his too fast heartbeat had them convinced that he would likely die of heart complications. Once he got his powers his physical differences made more sense, and were required to support his speeds. You simply couldn't run as fast as Pietro did without a specialized body. But those differences had a price. His heart still only had so many beats before it would wear out, about the same number as any normal human, only he used his up at an increased rate. It was a difficult thing to study, but a best case scenario, in which his heart beats averaged to be about twice as fast as an average man, left him with a life expectancy of 35 years. That number had been dramatically decreased without his knowledge just months previously, when his father made a deal with the devil. Such particular and innocent sounding phrasing. Heart beats in exchange for years restored. He didn't need to specify from who, or how many.
Pietro had been feeling the effects of it from the very morning after, though he had passed it off as pain from sleeping wrong, or pushing himself too hard. He would find himself getting back aches a lot, and he always seemed to be tired. The jolts from truck incident had left his chest sore, and as time past the ache didn't leave him. Pietro began to grow anxious, but he didn't voice his concerns, certain it would pass.
He was on the stairs when a sudden spike in pain stopped him in his tracks, gripping the banister tightly. He felt as though there was a weight on his chest, crushing him. His lips parted, on a verge of calling for help when he was struck by lightheadedness, lurching quite suddenly to his knees and clinging to keep his grip on the banister, feeling bile rise in his throat. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
