Tony's petulance was verging on offensive when Wanda was already fully aware of what was at stake every moment she wasted sitting here instead of pursuing Mystique or warning Nick. Miraculously her patience remained intact as she bit back her retorts and stared intently at the tabletop. It was obvious that whatever side of Mystique that "Ray" constituted was not the same one that Wanda had known for most of her life. Ray apparently needed to be protected and wasn't a formidable mutant terrorist with any number of identities she could assume in order to simply disappear and keep herself safe. "Raven" and "Mystique" were simply more faces, just like every other lie that Wanda had seen her father's favorite wear so easily. That was how Wanda had always known her and look at how effortlessly she'd deceived Fury and how long she'd deluded Tony. It wasn't that Wanda thought someone else could deal with Mystique later, it was that Wanda was sure no one would be able to find Mystique unless she wanted them to. Wasn't this all just part of how she operated?
Wanda would never be able to reconcile her version of Raven Darkholme with Tony's. The Raven she knew was fearless, a ruthless and efficient killer. She had always been afraid of Mystique and, she suspected, maybe her father had been, too. Mystique was the only person Wanda could think of with the power to openly defy Magnus without consequence and for Wanda that was enough on it's own to make the woman absolutely terrifying. For all that anyone might attribute her suspicion to her hatred for Mystique, it would have been downright unreasonable for Wanda not to suspect the woman that had, heretofore, been Magneto's most constant and capable disciple. She figured that Tony had never seen that side of "Raven" and perhaps he just couldn't grasp how dangerous she was. Even after she'd tried to strangle an Avenger.
The vindication Tony unintentionally presented was met with a silent and skeptical look and Wanda wondered if he knew how absurd it had sounded. Perhaps this had been Tony's solution all along. Rely on the known terrorist who had been sent to assassinate him, had lied to him for months, to provide him with the same information she'd given the man who wanted him dead and hope he could come out of it all as the righteous victor. Maybe he thought he could keep the truth from his teammates because even if he didn't get his happily ever after he could still fix the problem. Fix everything. To his credit, Wanda wasn't sure if Tony really knew how unfeasible his plan was, though. There were so many factors to be taken into account that all stemmed from the question of whether or not Mystique really was still loyal to Magneto. It wasn't a question they were going to answer here tonight and it wasn't worth arguing with Tony about it. Especially when it was clear they weren't going to see eye to eye on any answer. Wanda couldn't help but think how this conversation might have gone differently if it were either of the other Avengers who'd found out about Raven. Would Tony have made all of these same excuses to Jessica or to Steve?
"Nick needs to know," she repeated and drained the rest of her coffee then rose from her chair to put her cup in the sink. In the doorway she turned as if she were going to say something more, but the words stalled at her lips and she walked out of the kitchen instead. She had already stalled too long and staying only meant that Tony would make more excuses and Wanda didn't want to fight over it. Love made people do such stupid things.
