The Devil takes many forms-
Characters: Nick, OT Misty Knight and anybody else who wants to pop in to see Nick for any reason. Multi-thread.
Setting: Where else? Nick's office, S.H.I.E.L.D.
Content: Nick Fury
Summary: Nick has to do damage control thanks Li Hua.
Nick Fury realized that life wasn't going to be easy, but sometimes he was still baffled by how fucked up it could be. Case and point- finding out four of his LMDs had been stolen by an impersonator in the midst of all the chaos during the weird power flux. Nick had to tip his hat to the wily motherfuckers, the scheme was as ingenious as it was a pain in the ass. And, unfortunately, more successful than the perpetrator could have expected.
"Track them," Fury told his engineers and he saw the fear of death in the eyes of the one that answered, "We can't." They hadn't put in tracking devices yet because they'd assumed the androids wouldn't be leaving the laboratory. Apparently, assuming made an ass out of you and Nick Fury. "Deactivate them," he suggested next and was again told, "We can't." The deactivation codes only worked if the LMD's were on and anyway, while the codes worked within the same room, the scientists and techs weren't sure of the range beyond of a few feet. What the fuck were these geeky motherfuckers hired for if not attention to important fucking details? Fury couldn't help but think that none of this shit would've happened if he'd given the project to Stark.
After ordering the lab workers to tell him as soon as the LMD's were activated and to make tracking chips and remote deactivation their top priority in only remaining model, Nick set about undoing any other damage done by the Fury impostor and taking preventative measures against future catastrophe. This included explaining the LMDs (so much for "top secret") and giving a series of pass-phrases to the Avengers and his Caterpillars to use if ever he offered them dangerous information or gave dangerous orders. He taught them how to physically deactivate an LMD and also instructed them, if they ever doubted that he was the real Fury, to ask him personal questions only he would have the answer to (Nick could already foresee Stark's abuse of this). The techno clones might have had his personality, but they didn't have his memories.
Next, Fury set about reviewing security footage of the day the LMD's were stolen, which took longer than he'd anticipated and made him angrier with each new development. The not-Fury had strolled in here with a couple of bitches like he owned the fucking place (which was probably a good way to go about it if you were trying to pass yourself off as Nick, but god damn). He, luckily, didn't seem to have had many extended conversations but there appeared to be one incident with someone Nick didn't immediately recognize. Further investigation showed him that it was Misty Knight and, after leaving the fraudulent Nick, she'd managed to access S.H.I.E.L.D.'s files. What the fuck was that about? There was nothing for it but to call her in for a meeting. Someone else he'd have to look like a fucking idiot in front of when he explained the situation. Fuck it, the contract for the LMDs was definitely going to Stark.
