A cup of coffee was brought to him at once and the waitress who brought it seemed to recognize him. She was older, with frizzy black hair and large, square glasses. She didn't even open her mouth to speak and Matt was greeting her.
"Hello, Shirley. This is Miss Guthrie, she's never had the honor of tasting a slice of the cherry pie from here," he lifted a hand to remove his sunglasses. His eyes were a bright blue, or at least used to be, but were now marred by those toxins and were clouded over completely. He still retained a hint of the old color but mostly they seemed gray now.
"Oh, that right? Well I'll bring a slice out right away. And what else can I get ya honey?" she asked Paige.
