Ah, he hadn't meant to scare the tar out of her but it was amusing, regardless. His grip on his cane slackened and he tapped it gently against the sidewalk as if shifting his weight slightly. Really he was just using the sound to wash over her so that when he tilted his head down he 'saw' the echo of her legs. Legs, legs, legs, boy he could still remember what a good pair looked like.
Matt sighed wistfully and lifted his chin, that smile etched across his face once more.
"You're lucky it was me, then. Anyone else in this city and you'd have gotten more than just a bad joke, so where you headed so fast?" He turned his head as if looking over his shoulder in the direction she had been running. He had not been going her way at all but suddenly he was moving to stand beside her as if he had been all along.
"Maybe I should walk you there, make sure you don't plow anyone else down," he teased.
