"Oh, that," she forced a chuckle and considered trying to distract him by mentioning the absent coffee. It would be hard, she knew, to try to pretend nothing had actually been wrong. Daimon wasn't stupid, he deserved more from her. Her false laugh died in a sigh and she settled her gaze resolutely on the floor. "It's my birthday," was her eventual and succinct reply, but she shook her head almost as soon as she'd spoken. That wasn't explanation enough, it didn't even make much sense. "Well, it's my brother's birthday, too. I've told you he's gone but there's more to it than that," Wanda pauseed, trying to decide how exactly to explain things. When she spoke again her voice was quiet and she still didn't seem to want to look up.
"We were always close. Really close. But months ago he just up and left me and the Avengers, out of the blue, to go back to Genosha and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Back to our Father-" there was a grimace as if the word was bile on her tongue and her frown remained. She was lying. It hadn't been "out of blue" at all, had it? As Tony pointed out, they'd been growing apart. But still- still- she couldn't accept that the fact at all warranted what amounted to a betrayal from the one person in her life she should have been able to trust the most.
"I try not to dwell on it too much, but today it's been especially difficult. Then Tony tried to take me out but that ended up disastrous and, I don't know. I just needed-" she waved a hand vaguely and finally glanced up to offer him an apologetic smile. "Someone. I didn't come here expecting to sleep with you, I guess. I don't know what I expected." To cover her growing unhappiness at the subject her grin grew sly and she added, "Not that I'm complaining with how things turned out."
