With as much of a comforting pat to Pepper's shoulder as she could manage (careful not to get her fingers anywhere within Pepper's reach), Cassie followed them out of the elevator and down a long hall to a private room. She pulled out her phone and texted the room number to Happy- she hoped he got here soon, maybe then Pepper would be less hysterical and he could probably better handle having her squeeze his hand- and then followed it up with a similar text to Tony.
It was almost a relief to leave the room to have a mini panic moment while the nurse was helping Pepper to change into a hospital gown. When she went back in she was relatively calm once more though her face fell a little when the nurse tried to explain that they needed to stop the contractions to get Pepper into surgery. "Do we need to wait for her husband?" she asked, and the question was directed more to Pepper than to the nurse. Cassie was pretty sure she wasn't the one Pepper wanted (nor did she particularly want to be) there during the actual birth.
