Self-deprecation was one thing, Tony could take control of the insult then. It was much nicer to believe that comment was all compliment rather than veiled barb. His charm might have been a unique one, but it got Tony pretty far, he would say.
"You'll excuse me for choosing not to believe you just yet," he replied, knowing it wasn't that easy, as much as he would like it to be. With some time and extensive training, Tony might come to trust that statement, but he was fairly certain that was a long way off. Right now, she was probably just playing to get her toys back.

After all, even if he had won Elektra over on the first date, that was treating the symptom and not the cause.
