"Oh," she said. "I am sorry. I thought perhaps there was a reason I should not water the garden that I did not know about. Your world is still new to me, and I could make a mistake without realizing it." She'd messed up in New York by throwing people around, and she didn't want to do anything in Genosha that would break the rules or embarrass Pietro. "There is a human saying, 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do.' This is what I need to do, do I not? Your father does not want people here to realize that I am not a mutant, so I must be careful."
On Attilan, Pietro had not had to hide anything about himself. It was no secret that the princess had brought a powered human back from Earth. Crystal thought this must have made things easier for Pietro than they were for her now. It went against her nature to hide things. At home, she was an open book, not afraid to tell people exactly what was on her mind. Here, that didn't seem to be the recommended way to behave, and feeling the need to alter her behavior patterns had the tendency to make the usually cheerful, headstrong girl appear to be overly serious.
"I am glad that it is fine for me to use my powers here, both here in the garden and anywhere in Genosha," Crystal said, smiling again. "Even if I cannot tell anyone of my true background, I can still use my powers. I am glad you allowed me to stay."
