Though jostled, the crowd seemed to only think someone had shoved their way through and Cassie was glad that Susan's ability was more subtle than her own. When she was released from the protective bubble Cassie tripped her way up to the stage and picked up the microphone.
"Um, excuse me," she muttered, her voice hardly audible, and she gestured for the music to be turned down once more. "Right," she began anew, "I'm sorry for the interruption and that, uh, display. think what Mr. Stark meant to say was-"
'Take it off!' someone shouted from the crowd and Cassie's own pause was followed by several jeers and catcalls. She flushed under the gaze of hundreds of people but still pressed on. "-Anyway, Happy and Pepper are pretty much the nicest people I know. They're good people and they're constantly giving and they deserve eachother more than anyone else in the world. We all appreciate them and, congratulations, Happy and Pepper..." Cassie trailed off there, unsure of whether the couple she was addressing was even still here. She wouldn't blame them if they'd bailed during Tony's 'speech.' "So thanks for coming out everyone and enjoy the rest of the party." The mic was deposited into its stand and Cassie hopped off the stage.
Sure it wasn't the most elegant of speeches, but it hadn't ended with being carried unwillingly off the stage by Captain America. A little be of normalcy seemed to have calmed the crowd somewhat and the party atmosphere returned bit by bit as the music came on once more and people began to renew their chatting and dancing.
"Thanks for your help," Cassie said to Sue and even managed a smile. "I should probably go-" see if Tony was all right, find Pepper or Happy, any number of things really now that the party was officially ruined- "It was nice to meet you." With that Cassie was off, disappearing from the dance floor and out of the ballroom doors.
