As far as Tony knew, operating the Iron Man was an honour. It wasn't just a job to do, it was an ideal and, okay, he'd given up so much to become Iron Man. Maybe not entirely of his own volition, but that's how it needed to happen, and he would have done it again if he could be half the man it took to put on that suit. So he didn't follow the winding path Happy took to his second statement, just connected to two directly and made his own assumptions after flinching at the shout assault, one eye winking closed and leaning out of the range of attack.
"Oh, thank you baby Jesus, I knew you jumped into this without thinking about it," he cut in, relieving Happy of the burden of his explanation. "Just don't tell anyone just yet, that would be a serious downer at an engagement party. Maybe tell your mom later, right, keep it quiet?" With that thought, Tony took another step back, one arm still out like he might grab Happy at any moment as he swiveled his head around to take in the crowd. Mrs. Hogan was here, right? He totally knew Happy would want her here. If she didn't show, that wasn't Tony's fault, Happy could turn his disappointment on her.
