That was the first good news Tony had heard since he started-- and with actual reliable scientific testing, not made up fantasy worlds. He knew Sue would have come in handy eventually. Smirking after her report, though, he couldn't help but tease, "Thanks for the update, J.A.R.V.I.S.." Evidently, the little scare had shaken that loose confidence from her. What a shame.
When they continued, alone now in the dark with the greater part of the team climbing towards the light, dropping down each careful foot slowly revealed the river rushing below, shimmering like a black diamond. It was wide enough across that Tony's light couldn't reach the opposite wall. Directly below them, though, there appeared to be a gaping hole in the river. Not a deep pool that whorled as the water rushed passed, but an actual cavern with the water flowing around it and rushing off without any lesser force downstream. Water did drip over the sides of it, but it was gentle falls compared to the torrent that should have happened if the earth suddenly opened up. "That's cool," Tony noted, eyes wide and trying to take it all in with just the weak glow of the flare. Maybe there really was a city down there.
