"You've got the patience of a saint, obviously," Nick smiled and put an arm around her shoulder to guide her towards the candy apple booth. Not that Nick himself couldn't manage something like that, but he didn't think any kids would be too keen to get a hug from a giant dude with a perpetual glower and an eye patch. He bought her the apple, sans nuts, as promised and then continued their stroll, his attention on her even as he kept his ears open to any sign of trouble. "Don't suppose you'd wanna come by my place later tonight?" he asked after a few moments of comfortable silence between them. "I mean, national holiday and all. Figure I might actually get a few hours to myself." Which was something that hadn't happened at all lately, and he'd noticed an unfortunate trend that whenever he and Jessica were completely alone together, some catastrophe occurred elsewhere that one or the other of them were forced to go respond to. Clearly, this was some terrible fucking Karma.
