Nick took a half second to orient himself after the teleport, gun drawn, gaze darting. He seemed unfazed by the carnage and pressed forward without once turning his face towards the ground. When Teddy glanced back at him, he offered only a glare and a tense nod indicating that they continue forward towards the sounds of violence. When they'd rounded a corner, Fury still in the lead, he held up his hand to pause him. On the street before them was a nightmare turned reality. The air was torn with screams and guttural howls, choked with smoke and the stench of burning flesh. Fights between mutants and agents and mutants and their own kind. There were bloodied corpses strewn over the asphalt and near a burning pyre was a group of humans- civilians and military and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents- huddled and whimpering, watching as one of their own was burnt alive by a laughing mutant. Nick shook his head slowly, his horror escaping only as a growl from deep within his throat. Projectiles shot from windows above and gunfire rattled beneath chopper blades hovering in the sky. Nick could hardly keep his footing as the earth rolled beneath them and a fissure opened up down the middle of the street. He leaped back, keeping the boys behind him, as a chunk of concrete fell from above right where he'd been standing moments before. The ground churned again and Fury finally turned to the boys and commanded in a low rumble, "Save who you can. Stay alive." Then he was gone, running out to leap the fissure as his gun fired round after round into a group of mutants who obligingly rushed to meet him, intent on adding his to all the blood that already pooled in the street.
