To act as if the tragedy held no sway over her would be foolish and a lie unto itself. Susan wandered the streets, the smell of death and blood nearly overwhelming her despite every experience she had before. How many times had she seen such destruction? Such pain? Was it a mark of a true hero that she was still able to feel something about them? Or was it a weakness? She unwrapped her arms from around her torso, the 4 emblem suddenly evident upon her chest, the blue in stark contrast to the rubble and darkness around her.
Would these people view her as a hero? She was only here to pick up the pieces after all, she had prevented nothing. That made her guilty too in her mind. The weak cry of someone to the right drew her attention and the Invisible Woman broke from her reverie and raced forward, easily scaling the rocks and debris till she came to the spot where the cry seemed to be the strongest. It sounded like a child.
Gloved hands dug through the rubble, pushing aside the sharp rock and twisted metal. "I'm here. I'll save you. I promise".
