"No, ma- no, I told you, I was in L.A. Los Angeles. Ma- no, Ma!" Happy was practically yelling in to the receiver of his phone. It was always this way with his mother, no matter what the medium, and he could feel the start of a headache buzzing around in his skull. "Ma, I can't just tell her what to do. She's not going to want to leave the city. Yes, I know it's your grandchild but- Mother, Pepper is a big girl, she'll be fine. We'll be fine. I'm sure Aunt Jenny's beach house is great, but Pepper and I aren't going to- No, Ma, we haven't told the boss yet. Because he's busy, and there hasn't been time. Well- the gym's closed up for now. I've got other things going, Ma. Just, stuff. Look, I should really go. Okay. Okay. Okay! Yeah, I'll tell her. Love you too. Bye, Ma. Ma, goodbye." Happy ended the call and stretched himself out in a chair in the Avengers Tower common room. Hell life had become complicated. Being Iron Man and the baby and now all this Bug stuff. His mother was pestering him to bring Pepper and come up to Maine to stay with his Aunt where it was "safe." Was anywhere safe, he wondered. Who knew if the world would even be around in a few days. Happy groaned; it didn't help anything to think so fatalistically. It was difficult enough keeping his spirits up around Pepper, to try and make her believe that everything would be all right. Honestly, he didn't know if everything would be all right, and Happy was scared. The apocalypse wasn't something you could take out in a boxing ring, wasn't something you could shoot down in a metal suit. One thing was for sure, if they survived all this chaos, he was done with Iron Man. He respected the boss and he loved him like a brother, but his family had to come first before Tony Stark's alcoholism. He couldn't afford to die doing a job he wasn't even cut out for.
