"I'm trying," he said, letting out a breath, and even just hearing Teddy's voice was doing wonders. He leaned against the pay phone, eyes darted back down to the tunnels and he forced himself to cam the fuck down and deal with this.
"Is--are um...you okay?" he asked, needing Teddy to be all right. Fuck if Teddy wasn't safe and there was nothing he could do for him either...No, bad thoughts. Don't go there.
"I'm at 145 Street--Saint Nicholas Avenue. My cell won't work, and I'm not sure how long the pay phone will last, but I'll call back as soon as I can, I have to go get the people out of the cars.--...I love you Teddy."
He hung up quickly, before he could change his mind.
