Re: Fury, Rogers and Stark + Carol
Awkward. That was probably the best way to describe the trip out here. It was damned awkward. Nick used the opportunity to apologize to Cap and- well, not apologize to Tony because he'd meant what he'd said to him in the Avengers kitchen, but at least he offered a handshake and a I realized that was uncalled for. Apologies were followed by a vague mention of a file and then he was silent until they landed.
Fury had been informed immediately about Carol Danvers' accident and saw it as a possible way to restore the Avengers' confidence in him. He'd reviewed all the information and then suggested her as a possible future recruitment for the Avengers (and would be sure they got a full file this time). In the meantime, he intended to have her for S.H.I.E.L.D. So that was why he and Cap were on a S.H.I.E.L.D. headed to Area 51. Tony claimed to be here because he supposedly didn't trust Nick's judgment, but Nick was pretty sure he'd only tagged along to be a pain in the ass.
Nick began to feel right again when they arrived at base. Being at a military compound gave Fury a certain confidence and superiority warranted by the salutes of everyone he passed. Kind of nice to be the only General currently on scene and the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. As the trio made their way through the halls to Danvers' containment cell he rattled off some of the facts about her situation already outlined in files he'd gave them on the plane ride over. He strode into her cell like he owned the place and greeted her, "Major."
