Re: Rand + Carol
When Danny had told Nick he was willing to 'serve his country' this hadn't exactly been what came to mind. He had seen himself parachuting onto some island controlled by Doctor Doom, to fight a secret jungle geurilla war against genetically modified cyborgs, with only his wits and kung fu to protect him. Or you know, something in outer space. Something cool.
Not waiting in a grey concrete hallway miles underground. At least he thought he was underground. The elevator might have moved horizontally instead of vertically. Or he might be in another dimension- he could be in the Negative Zone right now-
Metal hinges screeched as far down the hall, a metal door opened. Three men walked out, and were led down a side hallway away from Danny. He thought for a moment he recognized Fury- but it was too quick to tell. The four armed soldiers who had brought him this far, reappeared and escorted Danny toward the still open door.
This was likely as much a test of Danny as it was of the woman he was there to assess. Fury’s instructions had been sufficiently vague to make Danny wonder if it was all for his benefit- but the standardized secrecy form attached had made it clear this was for real. Danny felt like he had essentially signed over his soul to the Federal Govt, for a chance to…well, he wasn’t entirely sure what he was there to do. Use whatever extra-normal means at his disposal to assess the subject…

He entered the small, square room just as the door screeched shut behind him. He jumped for a moment as the bolts slid into place. There was only one other person under the harsh lighting- a female soldier.
Danny somehow knew instinctively she was a soldier- her muscular arms, her cocky swagger, that hard look in her eyes.
He looked around questioningly, then found a metal chair. He pulled it forward and sat on it backwards, resting his arms on the back. He reached a hand forward.
“How you doin. I’m Danny Rand. Ex billionaire, superhero, all around charmer.” he said. “What’s with the Hannibal Lector set-up. Did you crash land from another planet or something?” he asked, sticking some juicy-fruit gum in his mouth. He hesitated, then offered her some, when a loud voice barked from concealed speakers. He couldn't understand what it said, but it didn't seem good.
He jumped, looking around questioningly. Then offered her the gum anyway.
