Xavier reached across the desk and accepted the less than stellarly kept records and began smoothing them out to look over, "Your father was all you had, correct? It is a shame that there was no one you could easily turn to during that time. But at least you are trying to get your life on track now, which is more than can be said of some."
He looked up and smiled again, in a manner that made it clear he didn't blame her for lashing out as she implied she had.
"The current school year is almost over, and while we do have a light summer program, the full year begins in the fall. I expect it will take some time to make calls and get the particulars of the transfer ironed out, so we'll use the remainder of this semester to take care of that for you. Do the appropriate placement tests, see how much you've retained since dropping out and the like. Do you have a place to stay? I assume you have some money of your own... Were you the one to inherit your father's estate or did that go into a trust or to someone else? I don't truly care for the details on that, its more to help establish an idea of your ability to fund your own education and what kind of grants you may need to apply for over the summer. And to know if housing will be an issue."
All very much standard business, actually. Though usually he was speaking to a parent about these things or a state social worker.
