Kurt returned just inside of the gate so he could work the controls to open it for Regan. The electronic mechanism came to life and the gate slid open with a creak. "Ja," he said, "I was just there, in the professor's office." Her reaction made him feel bad. "I'm sorry. It's just a precaution."
He waited for Regan to step through the gate before pressing the button to close it again. It was rather silly having a gate in the first place, considering their greatest enemy could easily twist the metal with his magnetic powers, and that others had the ability to fly or even the strength to smash through. It was more or less for show.
"Follow me, please," Kurt requested, nodding his head toward the mansion. As they walked up the drive, he asked, "Do... you know where your father is?"
