Characters: Jean Grey Setting: New York Content: Possibly yelling and fighting...with Jean you never know Summary: Jean walks away from her parents once and for all...
Her mother pulled her into a tight embrace and her father, glasses perched on the tip of his nose, easily scooped her up into a bear hug that he was known for. She couldn't stop the smile that was falling over her features, the sparkling in the green eyes and the childish laughter that escaped her lips at being petted and loved like the good girl she was used to being. They never saw anything besides her sweetness, her beauty, her innocence...even after she had killed so many people, they still loved her. Oh, she knew it was mostly because she had made them forget, manipulated them into believing it was someone else's little girl that had taken so many lives and not herself. In a way, she had cheated them, left them without a chance of ever knowing what a disaster she had become...but now there was little choice in the matter.
Mutants would be forced to register...possibly and this left her with the only option, with the only chance she had to make sure they were safe. She would make them hate her, despise her...and forget her. They would never sleep well without such treatment, they would never be free from the horribliness if she didn't push them there. "Mom, dad...you know I can't stay," she said softly, as they begged her to settle in once more, stay safe in their arms. "But, you are safe...you can pretend that you are normal, and not register. Jean it would be easy for you..." Jean looked away, biting her lower lip, and she slowly shook her head at the small request.
"You know I can't do that. This is who I'am and they are my friends...I can't change who I'am," she answered quietly, green eyes rising to meet her own mother's and she winced at seeing the pain their in her refusal. "I'm sorry. I can't be your little girl anymore...I can't be who you want me to be." She whispered, backing up towards the door, the grip on her arm not lessening as her father stepped forward, pulling her back, but she struggled. "You have to stay, you are still a minor and if I say you don't go back to school, you don't go back..." With that Jean's plan went into motion and she lashed out, telekinetic abilities tossing her father to the ground with ease and leaving a horrified expression on his face. "Daddy...I'm sorry" She reached out with her mind, telepathic abilities stretching farther than before and she erased their memories of her...of everything. Daddy was first and he held on so hard to the image of her as a baby, clinging to his tie, but eventually she pushed it away and locked it up tight in a place he couldn't reach.
Her mother was next, she could barely contain the tears as they fled her eyes and stumbled down her cheeks, sobs caught in her throat and the red head barely made it through the process before she was on her knees, watching her parents' stare at her blankly. "Who are you?"
"No one."
With that, the teen turned and ran, pushing open the balcony door and stepping out into the cool air, the wind slicing through her thin shirt. She glanced back once, etching their faces in her mind before she stepped up on the rail and leapt off, catching herself with her abilities and landing easily on the ground, sneakers splashing through puddles as she raced off. She didn't know where she ran or how far, but somehow she ended up in an alley and sunk to the pavement, pulling her knees to her chest and letting the sobs lose from within.
