Emily stopped in surprise. "Oh, you've been attacked before. I'm so sorry, I didn't know. Hey, if you ever want to talk about it, just let me know. I'll be here for you." Some people didn't like talking about such things, while others felt better if they could discuss it with someone. Emily thought it was best to let Megan decide if she wanted to say more.
She paused a moment, thinking how best to adjust the lesson. "I don't want to spend a lot of time going over stuff you already know. Still, it's not bad to get a refresher once in a while. So often people learn this stuff, but don't apply it. I'm guilty myself. I just now mentioned wearing sneakers instead of high heels, but just yesterday I was wearing boots with, like, 5 inch stiletto heels. That was before I knew there was a killer on board. I wouldn't have been able to run or fight effectively in those, and because they were boots instead of some kind of slip-on sandals or pumps, I wouldn't have been able to just kick them off.
"Like I said, I don't want to spend a lot of time on stuff you already know. I'm guessing they taught you what to do if you were attacked? Things like yelling 'Fire!' at the top of your lungs to draw attention, keeping your legs spread and knees bent to lower your center of mass and make you harder to knock down, trying to stay to the side or back of you attacker, and trying to put something between yourself and your attacker?"
Emily stopped stretching and sat cross-legged on the mat. "You know, it's true that most attackers go after weak targets, but I have a feeling that this case is different. I'll bet there's some specific reason Graham was targeted. It turns out he was a reporter, and I'm wondering if he may have learned something about someone that that person wanted kept quite.
