Fuck, someone was asking for Res' ideas. Boy was she swamped with the noises in her head, all fighting for priority.
"We need to move everyone to one floor, but too many people are unwilling to do that. It has to be all or nothing, otherwise we're just creating bigger gaps in each floor and singling out those that stay. So if the people won't move, we have to compensate by other means. We need to sit down and determine how many people can take a watch and security shift on each floor. Two per floor at all times would be ideal, but I don't think we have those kinds of numbers. So we get creative."
Some people might call Res' ideas of being creative insane. "We have a lot of people on board who have expressed the desire to try and take a look at how this death boat is run. We should find one who knows what they're doing to kill the engine of all but two elevators. There are fourteen elevators on all but the very top decks, and they're spread out. It's too hard to keep an eye on all of them at once, so we limit their use and station guards there. We can't cut off access to the stairs, so we see if that programmer chick can rig up some sort of security system there. People might piss and moan about invasion of privacy, but at this point who gives a fuck? We need to know if someone is on a floor they don't belong on. And if someone else turns up dead, if we can figure out who was on that floor at that time, we narrow down our suspect list."
Res barely paused for breath before going on. "So, a guard on every floor, stationed mainly at the elevators. We see about taking mirrors from rooms and positioning them in the halls so that you have a better chance of seeing what is coming and what's down turns and T-sections. Meanwhile we need to teach self defense. If people won't move, then in every block of rooms there should be at least one person 'in charge' of safety for them, with a gun or taser. We teach people how to defend themselves, or at least escape danger and make noise while doing it. We can do all we can there, but we still can't guarantee the safety of every person on board. So we have to start looking at the best way of figuring out who are suspects are and dealing with the problem head-on."
All that said, she leaned back in her chair and took a breath. "For starts, at least. That should just about fill up tomorrow's schedule."
