Karen accepted Sean's remarks with a nod. "Good enough for me," she said. "Molly, I didn't know your mother's name was Karen. It is a good name; it means 'purity'. I guess I haven't quite lived up to it," she said, blushing a little.
Turning to Chelsea, she said, "I hope you and Savannah can patch things up. I know she comes off as kind of shallow and self-centered sometimes, but I think that's just a defense mechanism. I think she's a little insecure, and that's her way of hiding it. Once you get past that, I think she can be a good friend. And she has lost an awful lot; both her siblings have gone missing, and now she's all alone on the boat, so she needs friends more than ever."
"Yeah, we should stay in your room. Thanks for taking me in! I'm sure you probably have a lot of questions for me, so when we get to your room, you can ask me anything you want, and I'll answer honestly. And oh yeah, I need to make a couple of corrections to that contact address I gave you a few days ago; it's slightly... erroneous. Sorry," she said with another little blush. "And remember, if you ever want some alone time or just get tired of having me around, I sure we can make some other arrangements. I don't want to be a burden on anyone."
As she finished gathering her things for the coming night, Karen looked around the Mirror Room. She probably wouldn't be spending very much time in here from now on. It seemed kind of ironic, because now that she had turned herself in, the thousands of pairs of reflected eyes no longer seemed as threatening. Just as she made peace with the room, she was moving out. The others were ready to leave now, so she followed them out the door and turned out the lights on the room that wouldn't let you hide from yourself.
