"Thanks Chelsea. You don't know how much this means to me. And as long as we're on this ship, I guess you better keep calling me Lisa. That way you won't accidentally call me Karen when we're out in public and someone might hear. But until we're rescued, I'll always look forward to the day when you can call me Karen freely."
When Molly said she forgave her, Karen's tears returned, but this time they were tears of joy. "Thank you, Molly. You always know just the right thing to say. I couldn't ask for better friends than you and Chelsea. And you're right, Savannah needs friends too. I thought about including her in this meeting, but I decided she didn't have the same need to know that you all did. She's suffering enough without this additional burden. I think it's best just to keep it a secret from her for now."
Turning to Sean, Karen said, "Sean, I'm so sorry about all this. I know it's been hard, but I think you've handled it professionally, and that's all I could ask. I hope I can eventually rebuild your trust in me. I never meant to hurt anybody. I know I don't have to tell you this, but please keep that briefcase and its contents safe. They may be the only thing that can keep me from being convicted if we ever get rescued."
She started to gather some things to take to Chelsea's room, then turned back to Sean. "Oh, I have a couple of questions about my, uh, custody. Does my companion always need to be someone who knows about this? Or is it OK to be in the company of somebody else, like Savannah, as long as someone can confirm where I was at all times? Also, should Chelsea have a pair of handcuffs so she can secure me temporarily if she has to go to the restroom or something? I'd rather do that than leave any doubt about where I was, in case something happens."
