Karen was truly touched by the way Molly was defending her. She had been afraid Molly might throw some kind of fit, or worse, seize up. Chelsea, on the other hand, looked like she was in shock. Karen desperately hoped that, once she told her story, Chelsea would forgive her deception rather than turn her back on her in revulsion, but for now it was too early to tell how things would go with her.
"It's alright, Molly, he's just doing his job. Yes, I understand my rights, and quite honestly I hope my words are used against me in a court of law, if that means we've all made it home safely." She paused to wipe away some tears. "I'll tell you the whole story, and I'll forgo the attorney. I doubt we could find one on this ship anyway. I've decided it's time to stop running and take responsibility for my actions, something I should have done to begin with. Let me start off by saying that I never meant to break any laws. Actually, I don't think I'm guilty of any crimes, except for running away. But...there is evidence that makes it look like I am. I...I hope when you hear my story, you can forgive me for deceiving you. I've been a fool," she said, and paused to let a new round of weeping pass.
