As the picture was handed it to her, Lottie took hold of it as carefully as she could, very aware of what a treasured object it was. If the look that came upon Miguel's face hadn't been any indication, the wear lines that laced the photograph were.
"They're beautiful, Miguel," she cooed, running her thumb over the picture. He and his wife were matched in looks, and their daughter had been graced with the best of both of their features. "I would miss them very much too," she murmured. "Why aren't they with you?"
When she heard Jack's laughter, she grinned at him. "It still gets talked about, to this day. You're lucky I didn't call the police on you," she joked. She would never have called the police on him, unless he had been uncooperative. And thankfully, he had. She wouldn't have dealt well with an ornery nudist in her shop.
