buddy system
Who: Hector and Leto
When: Early afternoon
Where: Medical station
Leto knew the others were probably furious with her, but she had no regrets. No, she hadn't handled things in the best possible way, but she stuck by her decision. The ship knew now, and it was better than discussing their options all day. After posting, she quietly let herself out of Graham's room, and headed back down to the medical station. After unlocking and opening the door, she was surprised to see Hector. She had told him before she left that he was free to leave whenever he felt able. "What are you still doing down here?"
Hector had been on the computer terminal, and looked up upon her entrance, expression both grim and sheepish. "Saw your post." he said, ignoring the real answer. Which was that he'd started to leave and felt a little wobbly. "Buddy system, yeah? I figured you'd be coming back here."
Leto gave a small smile and nodded. "Buddy system." she repeated. "Do you want me to walk you back to your room?"
Oh, geez. She thought he meant he was worried for his own safety. Smooth, Treves. Big tough man you are. "That's not what I meant." he said, shaking his head. "You gonna be alone down here all day? You need someone else here too. Thought I'd stay down here for that. You need a man down here, yeah? For protection."
Leto blinked at him. Oh. She sighed softly and moved to sit down. Men were such horrible patients. "Hector, you just had surgery. You need to be on bed rest." Which was the nicest way possible of saying he wasn't up to protecting anybody right now. She understood the male ego.
"We'll see if it comes down to it." Hector replied, able to read between those lines. "Look... I'm gonna be in bed doing nothin', either here or in my room. Might as well be here. It's probably the only way I can make myself useful right now, yeah?"
Much as she wouldn't have liked to admit it, it would solve a few problems. She had promised not to be alone down here all day, and to several people. She probably could have asked Alex to stay with her, but she didn't want to. Especially after the scene she had made upstairs. Her dad had Levon, and she wanted them to stay put. She could have called Micah, and the damnable part is that she wanted to call Micah. He had been so strong and supportive yesterday, and it had reminded her of how she'd fallen in love with him in the first place.
No, you are not allowed to think like that. He abandoned you and your son. And has he shown concern without you going to him? Where was he on New Year's Eve? No message to see if you or your son were alright. And no message now. He's out for himself. Leto frowned and looked down at her hands. After a few moments, she sighed and nodded softly. "Alright. You can stay." she agreed. "But get back into bed."
Hector nodded and pushed himself to his feet. It wasn't really a fun thing to do, standing. Kind of felt like every time he did his stitches would split and something unpleasant would come flying out. But he was desperate to walk around a bit and get some use out of his legs. He wasn't used to staying in bed all day. But if that's what she wanted, that's what she wanted. "Alright, I can compromise." he agreed, easily. Best not to argue with women. He always lost, and lost bad. With the look she'd had on her face when she opened the door, she was not a woman to be argued with right now. Possibly ever. He supposed she'd have to be a pretty strong woman to do all that she had.
Leto got up as well, protective of her patient. She wanted to be around in case he fell, even if she knew it was highly improbable. So she tried to look casual as she walked him to the exam room, and not like she was actually walking him there. "Do you need anything?"
Hector gave a lazy grin and shook his head. He bet she was a good mom. "Nah. Do you?"
Leto rolled her eyes at him and waited for him to get into bed. "No," she answered. That was a lie. She needed a lot of things right now, they all did, and they weren't going to get them. "Do you have any questions about what you read?" she asked. He was surprisingly calm, though she supposed she should have been used to that. He'd breezed through surgery by a non-surgeon like it was nothing. She was starting to accept that it took a lot to rattle him. "I mean... there's a murderer on the ship." she reminded, gently.
There's always been a murderer on the ship. Hector thought, darkly. Now there's two. God Almighty, that thought made him want to be sick. He suddenly felt tired, his shoulders heavier. "Can I go to the meeting tonight?" he asked, trying to focus his thoughts on something else.
"Of course. You're walking me there." Leto answered, as if he should have known that. Might as well let him feel useful. "Listen... in a little while, I'm going to be doing an exam of the body. I'll let you know when, I don't want you out there for that. Okay?"
Hector made a face as he got into bed. Going from standing to sitting and vice versa was just not fun at all. "No problem there." he said, shaking his head. "I don't want to see that. I'm sorry you have to." he added. "Just yell if you need me, yeah?"
Leto nodded. "Get some rest." Suppressing yet another sigh, she stepped back and left the room. It was going to be a long, horrible day.
