Mae had to stare at it every single day when she got dressed as a horrible reminder at how careless she had been. It had been her fault, not his. And yet she knew she would have done the same thing even if she hadn't been careless.
She stared at him for the longest fucking moment in utter shock, <"Wait. Security? Like you're security now? Like they gave the librarian the job of protecting people? What exactly did you tell them?!"> She had the right to be suspicious. This was highly irregular.
And suddenly listening to his heart was not as comforting as it should have been. She was completely tense and ready to run from the fools. Although where she would run she had no bloody idea. There was no place to go except their room, barricade the door and never, ever leave. Which would mean starving to death (they had several sources of water, dehydration wasn't exactly in in the cards).
