"Amen to that," he agreed. "A good woman'll do wonders for a man." He chuckled. "And don't worry. You don't have to understand them to catch one. I know I certainly don't. What Mae saw in me or still does, I'll never know. But I'm not about to complain either."
Cath nodded. "What sorts of troubles do you have reading?" he asked. There were all sorts of things that led to that kind of trouble. Vision problems (Cath's bane, stupid reading glasses), learning disabilities, or like Mae, lack of a proper education. "I imagine police officers have to read pretty well."
As for him and Mae, well. "My shop went under and there was just nothing for us there," he admitted. "So we thought we'd try starting over in the Land of Opportunity. Which is a horrible misnomer, by the by."
