Okay, falling backwards worked much better. Maddie flailed a bit, before landing in an ungraceful heap on the deck. Okay, that didn't help the bruises she already had.
And well, she really hoped she didn't squish the poor guy who saved her. She weren't a little girl by anybody's stretch of imagination. And well, she was solid muscle, thank you very much.
"Wasn't you," she assured him as she pushed herself up onto her hands at least. She tossed her wild mane of dark hair from her eyes, glaring daggers over her shoulder at the sea. "Was the fuckin' aliens I know're screwin' with us." She made an obscene gesture at the ocean, then shook her head.
Fuck, she shouldha drank the whole bottle. She could feel the buzz wearing off already. Shaking her head, she looked over at the guy. "You okay, darlin'?" she asked.
Wait, he looked familiar. Not that just about everybody in the world didn't. Maddie got around, in more ways than just bedroom. She was pretty sure she knew at least half the damned country after her seven year stint of roaming around it.
"I know you, sugar?" she asked, as if that weren't really the dumbest question in the world.
