"Me? A savior? Surely you're exaggerating!" She gave him an embarrassed smile. She didn't feel like she deserved to be called a savior. Still, it was nice that she had been able to cheer him up a bit. It actually made her a little more cheerful. Still a long way to go, though.
"Yeah, it's true. I can't understand how it happened. Divine intervention is the only thing I can think of." Looking back at the floor, she said, "The rest of us seem to be healing up at a normal rate, though. My ankle still hurts, though it's not too bad; the doctor says I should start putting my weight on it in a couple of days."
Lisa tried to remember if she had seen this man at the captain's speech. Had he seen her make a fool of herself? If so, he didn't seem to recognize her as the person who had asked about the sirens. Bracing herself to be ridiculed, she said, "I also seem to have developed some kind of ringing in my ears. You haven't heard anything that sounds like some kind of high-pitched whistling, have you? Sort of like an alarm or siren?" She desperately wanted someone, anyone, to confirm that she wasn't going crazy.
