Only someone that high would think - or rather, not think - to ask someone what they were doing at a library. The possibilities were rather scarce: either he was getting books, or returning books. Either way, it had to do with books. Books. At the library.
Brodie smiled along with her, though, and nodded when she rephrased the question. "Well, I wanted to read something that would take my mind off reality. You know?" Brodie looked up at the shelves. "But then I spotted the one Haruki Murakami I haven't read yet. It's not exactly fantasy, but it's surrealistic enough to achieve the same effect."
Yes because apart from Jamie this whole thing sucked so entirely it was difficult to believe it. And Brodie didn't want to turn to Jamie automatically every time he was bummed - that was just like what he did with the downers and there was no point in letting go of one near-addiction to get another one. Especially when it was addiction to a person. He'd almost gone down that path once before and it wasn't all that pretty.
"So...yeah. Can't go to concerts, can't play my drums...Need books." He shrugged.
