In retrospect, perhaps asking Matt if he was waiting food was a dumb question, considering where they were. But then again, he could've been looking for a quiet place to think. Lottie had been.
"I'm sure they're understaffed," she replied, tipping her head in a passive shrug. "I'm actually more surprised their even serving food considering... everything..." She paused for a moment, looking down at the table and fiddling idly with the table cloth.
"So uh... it looks like you came out okay, or do you hide your injuries well?" It was a surprisingly hard question to force out, but the elephant in the room had to be addressed.
To ease the discomfort, she flashed him an uneasy grin.
