As a rule, Jack had inordinately bad luck with those of the fairer sex. Some people had an ear for music, some were double-jointed, Jack tended to somehow end up attracting girls and women who were far from average. On occasion it could be a great thing, like he hoped it was with Eve. A good deal of the time, well, things turned out less than a blast.
Oddly enough, the phrase 'some people juggle geese' popped into his head.
Instead of taking the time to explain just why he would feel uncomfortable doing what he wanted to do, Jack grinned at her telling him that she thought she liked him too. Explaining that the fact that every time they had kissed or slept together, they had been altered in some way, reminded him uncomfortably of his relationship of Violet... Yeah, not something he wanted to get into. Not that he had been drinking heavily, or been on some sort of mood altering substance during it, but the fact that she had been dabbling in prescription meds the last half of the time they had been together.
Of course, in that moment, he was not consciously thinking about any of that. He was thinking about the fact that he had not found his brother-in-law before, and still did not know where he was. "Eve, hang on, I'm gonna grab my laptop to see if I can...well, you'll see."
Too impatient to wait for her answer, and feeling awful bouncy, he grinned again and got to his feet. That they had been just beginning a card game had been partially forgotten, as he dropped his cards on the table and practically rocketed to his feet. Turning around and stepping towards the room behind him had gotten muddled, which he realized as he fell over the couch behind him. Landing with a muffled thud behind the back of it.
