On the way back to the room, Jack had managed to procure himself a mug of coffee. And, if you really had any experience with Jack Fortescue when caffeine was added to the equation, you would see that that was not a very good thing. Not good at all, in fact. Once he had enough of it in him, he tended to go a bit...off the reservation and his clumsiness doubled or tripled. For the most part he had kept himself in one piece so far on this trip, mostly for the fact that he had slept through a good deal of it so far.
With a mock glare for the redhead at the hair ruffle, her second time in just over two days in fact, Jack made a face. "See, when you say it like that, it makes it sound like I go off to conventions dressed as the Green Goblin or something," he joked. "Or have a lightsaber hidden in my closet at this very moment." Actually, he had had a toy one when he had been a kid, as had his brother. With mock battles and dramatic voices, all the while leaping over the furniture and calling the current pet dogs 'banthas.'
"Hey," his eyes widened in concern and dismay when he saw her eyes fill with moisture, "I didn't mean-" Jack sighed. "So I suck at this, I'm sorry. I just meant that I know how you feel." Just then his expression was a bit self-deprecating, as well as containing a hint to his hope that she would be able to laugh or something. Anything, just not cry.
In no way did he mean to even imply that it could be otherwise than them returning home soon, he had just meant that it would be all better once they docked and they could go home. Although he had no idea if whatever was between them would continue after the cruise, or even was entirely sure that that might be what either of them wanted. He just knew that something had gone funky on the cruise, and that he did honestly like Eve.
His hands moved over the cards to shuffle and the bridge them, with the ease of having goofed around with cards since he had been a kid. It was something his grandfather had taught him, this old Texan with a love of John Wayne and Texas Holdem. Jack was not particularly good at poker, but he did enjoy it. "Okay, poker. What kind? We've got Texas Holdem, Omaha Hi, Seven Card Stud, Five Card Stud or Caribbean Stud Poker, take your pick." Of course he knew Strip Poker, but it was something he would suggest when there wasn't a concussion involved.
