Leaning her head against his shoulder, Lynne closed her eyes. Well, there was the small consolation that he wanted her to stay. But all the maybes and just-in-cases were making her uncomfortable. And torn, because she didn't want to leave. But, she didn't want to sustain another blow and actually become afraid of him, either.
"What would happen if I heard you and woke you up when you started to have a nightmare?" she ventured tentatively. Maybe if she just...stayed awake, she could be with him and still be able to nip it in the bud before things went as far as he was afraid they would. She could always sleep later. In her own room, in her own bed. Alone.
